"Um MJ, wtf is a Beltway Brat?"
That's a good start, but there's much more to it. A Beltway Brat knows what's up with the local DC scene and they probably don't care for the general arrogance that accompanies the ambitious to this town. We know how to avoid tourists and protests in the city. We know which streets will bypass traffic snarls. And we know which parties are worth attending.
We Washingtonians tend to have a certain attitude. National news is our local news. We have power and we know it. Nobody fails at Rush Hour like we do because we're champions of gridlock. We have more money than anybody and we didn't experience the Great Recession like everyone else. We're a protected bubble that extends roughly 50 miles outside the Beltway in every direction ending wherever the BMW-to-F150 ratio flips upside down. The longer you stay in DC, the harder it is to remember what its like outside it.
I wasn't raised here but live here now and work for the gov't AND was a military brat so I guess I can call myself a Beltway Brat :-p
